Alright 4 Print -
I wanted to create a print based on this screen print I did last year, The 'Place' of a bathroom calls to me, and I wanted to play with the mixing of the blue and red colours but abstract it so its less recognisable.
I tested the idea first with some gouache on acetate, In my bathroom. I wet the paper in my sink, and used the roller to press down the paper to the gouache.
It did not make as clean of an impression as I wanted. It bleed quite a lot, but it was meant to be drops of blood, so it bleeding was quite thematic. So I 'Rolled' with it and added more water.
I also feed my cat Salmon in this bathroom as well - you can see her food to the side.
I took a Ghost print from the first wet print to see what would happen.
I then used the River stencil positives to add the blue element to the print. I like the concept but not the outcome, its also hard to print without a press so I'm going to do a proper one in the studio, but with more straight lines to indicate the bathroom more.
Back in the studio my other prints were looking a bit bare. I gathered some objects I could use top make imprints of colour to cover any spaces. I have a lot of plants, so leaves were an easy one, but I also had a lot of metformin pill packets that i keep for some reason. I thought the organic shape of the leaves would play off the inorganic rigid shape of the pill packets, giving nature vs synthetic. Like how in a bathroom you use chemicals to clean organic fluids, or how in my body, its flesh and blood, but I have a little plastic T in my body that controls my 'organic' Hormones.
Here are some of my trials of the leaves and pill packets.
The one on the left is done in my opinion, but I feel the one on the right needs one more thing. I took this print home and painted a gouache print of a Moring Glory plant. Moring Glory plants are classified as weeds in Melbourne, but every place I've lived while here there has been these plants taking over fences and yards.
After the edition of the Moring Glory I felt it was now done.
And this is the last print, I used the eco wash on this print as well to create more of a bleed and melding of the two colours. Once I printed it the first time, I took away the lines and moved the drops to the other side of the paper, then flipped the colours around and got this gradient effect on both sides.
Last step is to mount the prints!
I used framing tape for the little tabs and editioned on the back of the prints as they are all bleed prints.
