Statement
In 2020 Halle Brown was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) She had been creating art through painting based on her experiences to mend the hurt and frustration that comes with being the owner of a uterus in the medical world, and celebrating the PCOS body. In august 2021 after taking "The Pill" for hormonal imbalances, Halle experienced a blood clot in her lower left leg and immediately had to stop. She was left in limbo, her last option would be the IUD, an invasive and painful procedure. It took 10 months after the clot for her to have the procedure. In that time, with the IUD being her last hope she mythologized it as a symbol of her salvation that she would have to sacrifice her own body. Much of her art has now centred around the deityization of the IUD, the uterus and female reproductive system in the form of print.

Halle Brown is one of my peers at university. We have been in a group exhibition together - ‘Faces: The Exhibition’ at The Fitzroy Art Collective. Her art is an expression of the bodily experiences people with female anatomy experience, such as medical discrimination and negligence and a general dismissal of pain. Her artwork centres the body and puts it in a light of beauty.

Brown's works are a marvel of planning and execution. the level of detail and polish is something to behold. The themes and motivations behind her work are quite clear and frequent, though the skilful use of colour and form in her prints lets them stay fresh and engaging.
